Book Worm

Oh how I love love love the library summer reading program.  Abby has been looking forward to it for more than a month and she could hardly  wait to get started.  Yesterday was the big day.  And as soon as we got home, she started reading.
She read

and read

and read

and read.
All.  Day.  Long.  And when she went to bed she read some more.  This is how I found her when I went to bed last night.  Fast asleep with her book, a marker, and her recording sheet on top of her!

and her Daddy's iPod next to the bed, which she used to keep track of how long she read.

This morning she was right back to it and climbed into my bed to read to me for an hour.

By 10:00 she had read 5 whole hours!!!

She cut out her first coupon to turn in for her first prize.
"Hurry up, Mom!  I don't think you understand how excited I am about this!!!"  So off we went to the library to collect her prize.  Only to find out that the library doesn't open until 1.  Ooops.  "Maybe next time you should look it up so you don't disappoint your kid."  Thanks kid, I'll take note.

Welp, gotta go!  It's 1:02 and Abby is already in the car.

Just Like Daddy

Ben loves to work outside with his Daddy!  I walked out to ask them a question the other morning and witnessed him chopping some wood and helping Robbie to back up the truck so he could hook up the trailer.

He is his daddy's boy!!

Summer!!!!

It's summer!  I LIVE for summer.  The rest of the year is filled with work and school and sports and rain and stress but not summer.  Summer is filled with playing, and sleeping and swimming and friends and boating and (fingers crossed) SUN!  My life is so much better in the summer.  I am currently three days in and I couldn't be happier.  This weekend was full of all things summery and it got us all ready for the next two and a half months.

We started out with a family trip to the zoo.  I brought my own monkeys with me...

Gee...think they're related?

Abby got in some gymnastics practice

and Grandpa bought some long overdue ice cream.

We touched stingrays

and hung out with our favorite three year old!

And you know how much I love babies of all kinds, so you know we loved seeing these sweet things!!  I want one.

I got this great shot of my kids both looking at the camera at the same time

So I decided to try my luck with three...

 No dice.

We spent Father's Day hanging out with best daddy there is.

and swim swim swimming all day

Grandpa got involved in a serious water fight

and my parents celebrated 40 years of marriage!!

 Pretty impressive!

Do you remember these two??
Here they are on their first day of kindergarten

And here they are on their last...

I can hardly believe that I am now the only kindergartner in this house!!  I have no idea where the time goes.  But I'm so proud of them.  And you would be so proud of me.  Because I didn't cry at all yesterday!!!  (But I am a little teary right now...)

(And yes, Abby had a little incident while running in flip flops.  Unfortunately for her she is her momma's girl.)

I had a little basket of goodies on the porch for them when they got home from school.  Here's a tip for all you parents out there.  Buy things you were going to buy anyway and present them as presents.  You look like a hero.  This basket had new swimsuits and goggles that they needed along with a few dollar items like pool noodles and bubbles...

Ben couldn't be happier to be done with school and ran off the bus.  When I told him he was a first grader he said, "Not yet.  Right now I'm a summer breaker!!"  That's my boy!

Once we got home, Abby put the name plate from her school desk on her beach towel and got right to work on her workbooks that she brought home....

While her brother busted out some push ups

 before going for a swim.

This morning has already included sleeping in and playing and swimming and it's not even noon yet!

I am so excited for what our summer has in store for us.  Stay tuned for our adventures!!

Five Days

Fivedaysfivedaysfivedaaaaaaaaaaaaaays!  Actually, four and a half, but who's counting?  We have been ready for summer for a couple weeks around here.  In fact, we have been kind of pretending that it is summer already.

It all started when our new pool arrived.  We had had the last one for three summers and it wasn't going to make it a fourth.  So we decided to upgrade to a bigger one.  The day it showed up on our doorstep was not at all warm and a little bit sprinkly, but we couldn't wait to tear into the box.

We were a little alarmed to read the instructions on the side of the box.  We're hoping they mean pool...

You know when your kids are babies and you buy them a ton of presents for Christmas and all they play with is the box?  They still do that when they're six!!!
I can't even begin to imagine how cold the water was, but they weren't about to miss the first chance to swim.

And in the morning when the pool was full, they didn't waste a minute.  Although, I'm not sure why Ben went swimming in long sleeves.

Beside swimming, we also celebrated the end of baseball season.  We are so proud of our little baseball player and can't wait until next year!!!
For Memorial Day weekend, we headed to the lake.  The weather was about what we expect for Memorial Day around here but that didn't slow us down much.  We took some walks

(Seriously, this is my favorite place to be!!!)
 and went for some swims
 We threw rocks
and  Ben went swimming with his long sleeves again.
 There was some fishing
 and some gutting

Some of us jumped off the dock
and some of us worked on making faces for the camera
 and reading.
My cousins came to visit with their sweet new baby and we couldn't love more.  (Abby told me the other day that she made a wish for me to have another baby.  Thank goodness she told me because now it won't come true.  Right?  RIGHT?!??!)

And Abby was happy that she caught a fish too!!!!
Last weekend, Abby cartwheeled her way through the big parade downtown and we couldn't have been more proud!

This weekend was all about swimming.   My dad has been busy building a platform for them to jump from (stay tuned for more on that) but in the meantime we just stacked up some pallets.  Not redneck.  Nope.  Not at all.

We also ate our first meals outside.  A sure sign that summer is on the way!!!

Today we went to a friend's house to swim in their big pool.  We hadn't been there 2 minutes before they hit the diving board.

It was a great day filled with great friends
 and jumping
 and splashing
 and flying
 and swimming
 and laughing.

Bring it on, summer.  The Millers are ready for you!!!!
