Hellllllo! Have you missed me? I've been kinda busy. But don't you worry your pretty little head. Cause I'm back!! Well, at least for tonight. So far our, summer has been the busiest on record and we are having so much fun that we don't plan to slow down anytime soon. Here's what we have been up to.
One morning a few weeks back, Robbie drug me out of bed at the ungodly hour of 8:45 (mornings aren't really my thing) for an impromptu clamming trip. Now, I already had plans for the day and as my friend Amy says; "If it's from the sea, it's not for me!" so I wasn't too hip on our new plan, but I went. And it was fun! Not the clamming. I don't dig for food. But it was super low tide and there were so many cool animals all over the beach!
The rest of my family decided that they did want to dig for their food
but they came up empty handed. This is why I just go to Safeway. I never leave Safeway empty handed.
The next night, we had some friends over for dinner...
all of our friends are babies.
We were excited to head up to the lake for a week...not so excited that it poured rain for the first four days. But that didn't stop us from having fun!
We skied in the rain and in between the storms we took advantage of every sun break!
(I realize this looks a little Hitler-esque but he just really excited to ski one handed. Scout's honor.)
The Summer Reading program was going so well that Robbie decided to implement The Summer Wake Boarding Program. After completing the first task (ski trainer around the entire lake) the next step was to wake board with Daddy.
This, my friends, is the face of a little boy torn by emotions. He wants to wake board with Daddy but he knows it is going to be too scary. He screamed about this for about 20 minutes, tried it twice and then quit.
His sister on the other hand...
Eventually, the sun did come out and it was so nice that it almost made us forget the rain!!
And then the fun really began...
See this boy? See his foot that is soaking in the water? You would never know that just before this we were weathering what could possibly be the worst thing that has happened to him in his little life...a splinter. Now in his defense, I will say that as slivers go, it was a doozy. However, if this was any indication of how he will handle trauma in his life we better hope that splinters are the worst thing that ever happens to him. I held him down (which I couldn't do because he was thrashing around like a fish out of water and I really am not all that much bigger than him length wise) while Robbie tried to dig it out and Ben screamed like a wild banshee. "Ow ow ow owwwwwwwwwwww! You guys are hurting meeeeeeeeeee! I'm not ready for thissssssssss!" It was horrible. He was crying, I was crying, and Robbie was trying to calm us both down. You will be happy to know that the surgery was successful and as you can see, our patient recovered quickly. Also, I never want to be a nurse.
We came home from the lake for one day to do our laundry and pack up for our first camping trip of the summer. The sun was out and we couldn't be happier to be with our friends.
The boys played tag
and the girl worked on her gymnastics...in a skirt.
There were s'mores
and buddies in matching jammies
and rock painting
and bike riding
and friends
and fire works!!
And finally, there was sleeping!
In between all this fun, we have found time to do lots and lots of reading too.
So far summer has been awesome! We have had a few bumps in the road (heat exhaustion, Hand Mouth and Foot Disease, and a little bit of rain...along with the life-threatening sliver) but we should recover from all of it and we still have so much summer ahead of us. Stay tuned!
