All Quiet on the Western Front

It's 6:32 and my kids are fast asleep.  Man, I love busy weekends!!  This weekend was spent at the lake and was the perfect combo of relaxing and fun.

First up?  Bike riding!  Now if you've been paying attention (as I'm sure you all have) you know that the kids wanted to be able to ride their bikes to the big boulder at the lake when we went for Memorial Day.  Ben has been "riding" for a little over a month now but was still a bit (as Abby says) "wibbily and wobbily".  Abby on the other hand was still struggling to balance for more than a fraction of a second at a time.  So first thing Saturday morning we headed out.  Me on foot, Grandma on her gigantic bike, Ben wibbiling and wobbiling and Abby looking ready for riding in her pink tie-dye shorts, witch shirt and bunny helmet.
I never let go of the back of her bike, but we made it to the boulder!!!
By the time we headed back, Ben was wobbiling less and starting to look like a real bike rider!  (I told you Grandma's bike was big...I couldn't even get her head in the picture.  And yes, Ben's riding a pink bike.  The handle is still on his bike so that's the one Abby was using.)
After our bike ride it was time for a swim.  The kids said the water was COLD.  I stayed on the dock in my sweats so I wouldn't know.

We also got in a little bit of snuggle time with our favorite little guy, Cousin Christian.
Saturday morning everyone (and by everyone I mean everyone but me) was up bright and early to go fishing.  And apparently when you get up bright and early to go fishing there is no need to get dressed.  Ben successfully reeled in a fish all by himself and since Daddy was out in the boat at the time he even "batted it all by myself!"  For those of you unfamiliar with the terminology, it means he clubbed it on the head with a bat to put it out of it's misery.  That's my boy!!
Later that evening we headed out for another family bike ride.
This time, I started letting go of Abby as she rode.  And what do you know?  She did it!
Now she was definitely wibbily and wobbily and there may have been a very close call with a parked tractor but she did it.  And she was so proud!!
By this morning she was able to ride a couple miles with us and he was screaming "yahoooooo!" as he flew down a steep hill!  I am so proud of my littles for setting a goal and meeting it.  They worked hard to be able to ride their bikes by our lake trip and they did it!
Above all else, I am glad to have bike training behind us.  I'm sure our neighbors would agree.

What's our next challenge?  Well since we get to go back here for three more weeks this summer the kids have decided that they want to learn to ski/knee board/wake board.  Wish us luck and stay tuned for what promises to be very entertaining.
