I Feel Like I'm Nesting

Well, it's that time of year again.  Yep.  Back to School.  As a teacher, I have a lot to do to get my classroom ready and as a momma, well I'm not ready to talk about that just yet.  I'll cry.  Again.  But between rearranging tables and buying new school clothes I have had back to school on the brain for the past couple of weeks now.  And once I start thinking about something I can't stop.  And I don't sleep well because I keep thinking of things I need to do and running over my list in my head so I don't forget anything.  Constantly.  I do realize that this is ridiculous.  And I probably need professional help...or a Xanax.  Or both.

Anyway, it's times like these when my (self diagnosed) Adult ADD kicks in and I decided to finish all of the things on my summer bucket list.  Well not all.  Just the ones involving painting and organizing because I have come to terms with the fact that the scrapbooks are not getting caught up anytime soon.  So I tricked my husband into a Home Depot trip  (like that was hard) and loaded up on paint and supplies and got to work.

I filled the garage with all of the things I needed to paint.  My sewing machine table (along with a couple of shelves for the craft room)

 Ben's new Lego storage system
Some cupboard doors that I had big plans for
And the trim for the gigantic mirror in my bedroom.

By the time I went to bed, the garage smelled of fumes and everything had a couple of coats of paint.

In the morning, I finished it all up and yesterday was organizing and decorating day!!! Yay!  First up, the craft room.  Now my craft room has always been functional (thanks to the gigantic desk the contractors built for me) but as you can see it lacked excitement:

Enter some pretty turquoise paint and ta da!  It's like a whole new room.  Here, I'll take you on a tour.
One of my favorite parts of the desk is my paper storage shelves. So easy to find everything and so pretty!!
Abby has her own little corner of the room with a desk and chair, courtesy of my dad.  He volunteers at the Habitat for Humanity store nearby and is able to find us almost everything we need (and sometimes things that we don't need!)
Abby has all of her own craft supplies that she got from Santa.  Santa (AKA my dad) built the shelf in his workshop so that it would fit perfectly in her little corner.  She loves all of her supplies and sometimes spends hours up there making everything from one eyed star monsters to a scrapbook of baby pictures titled "Win We Wer Babees".
This wall has always been a little bland.  But not anymore!!
My dad got this shelf for me and it is just what I wanted to add some color and details to my room.
And this is a project I have been wanting to do for a long time.  Remember the cupboard doors I was painting?  Here they are.  A little paint, some clothes pins and now I have an instant place to hang things.  Of course my dad got the doors for me.  I first saw this on my favorite blog (pretty much the only one I read that isn't written by someone I know) I Heart Organizing.  She is a girl after my own heart, I tell you.
The other side of the room has my sewing area and all of my supplies.  I really debated whether or not to paint the sewing table and I am so glad I did.  So much better!

See that little cupboard above the sewing machine?  It's a thread cabinet made by my grandpa for my grandma.  I'm still working on my thread collection but sometimes I just like to open it up to look at it because colors make me happy.  I mean really...look how pretty it is.

The cabinet in the corner might be the best thing that happened to my craft room.  When my friend, Michelle, redid her kitchen, she gifted me their pantry to hold all my craft supplies.  And it works perfect!!

So there you have it.  My new craft room.  But I didn't stop there.  I also painted the shelf that we keep Ben's Legos in.  Because it was white.  And the rest of the furniture in the craft room is
black.  And it was driving me CRAZY!!  But not anymore.  It looks so much better and matches the rest of the playroom.  Ahhhhhh I can sleep at night again.

I also have been wanting to fancy up the laundry room a bit.  Enter some more cupboard doors (thank you Dad!) and some pictures of dirty kids (thank you Pintrest!) and it's just what I was hoping for!

Now as you know, my laundry is usually piled high on that counter but the benefit of all this craziness is that I have been cleaning constantly.  Even folding laundry.  I know!!!

So there you have it.  Three new projects in two days.  I'm still waiting on the mirror.  The bracket we had to hang it wasn't sturdy enough.  And I DO NOT need seven years of bad luck (I'd probably end up with another kid or something) so we didn't want to risk it.

So there you have it.  3 projects crossed off the list (you know how that makes my heart pitter patter), a clean house, the kids closets cleaned out and stocked with new clothes...I feel like I'm nesting!  (Don't worry.  I assure you I am not.)
